What New For 2018?
The Land Rover Discovery has returned to its fifth-generation as a unibody SUV. The former body-on-frame LR4 is gone, and so are roughly 1,000 pounds of weight and its boxy styling. Two 3.0-liter V-6 engines are offered including a 340-hp supercharged version and an optional 443 lb-ft of torque turbodiesel version, both paired with an eight-speed automatic.
These improvements should result in better performance and fuel economy. The Discovery’s new front end is now more rounded with the grille and headlights becoming narrower, an angled C-pillar, and horizontal taillights. A new modernized interior is now more reminiscent of the premium Range Rover then that of the Discovery Sport.
Land Rover continues to make the Discovery an off-road warrior with a new Terrain Response 2 Auto system that optimizes a range of vehicle settings to suit a range of conditions including general driving, grass, gravel and snow, mud and ruts, sand, and rock crawling. Hill Descent Control, Gradient Release Control, and Roll Stability Control complement the Discovery’s off-road features. When traversing difficult off-road conditions, the SUV’s air suspension can raise the vehicle up to three inches.
